Knowing When to See Your Doctor

Knowing when to see your doctor after an exercise mishap or diet issue can be difficult because you don’t want to go if it isn’t necessary but on the other hand you don’t want to treat something that needs attention.

Time is a good factor to consider if you’ve had a small injury. Let’s say you twisted your ankle while jogging. You may feel that it isn’t that serious but keep in mind the time issue. If it has been more than 3 or 4 days since your accident and you are still feeling pain and discomfort you may want to consider calling your doctor up and at least getting an opinion on whether or not you should come in and have it looked at.

The same thing is to be considered when it comes to diet and nutrition issues. For example, if you’ve had an upset stomach for more than a week that includes diarrhea or throwing up then it can be a good time to see your doctor and find out what is going on. This is especially true if you have already tried over the counter drugs to no avail.

The thing to remember is to use your gut instinct. If you know something is wrong than be sure to call your doctor. Usually we can tell if something isn’t right and if so, it’s better to go in and find out rather than to wait till there is a more serious issue that requires more than just a doctor visit.
