It can be hard to keep up with a fitness regimen and it’s even harder to do when you’re not feeling well. There are a few things you can do to keep up with your fitness even when you’re not feeling 100% healthy.
One thing you can do is to lessen your fitness load. For instance, if you normally do an hour of cardio plus walking on the treadmill then you can only do the treadmill. If you typically use the treadmill and walk three miles a day why not walk for one mile? You’re still getting your exercise but you are doing it at a pace that will accommodate the way you are feeling. This doesn’t mean you have to stop your exercise program altogether, in fact it is simply a way of keeping up with things while you’re sick. Obviously if you are too sick to work out at all that’s understandable but if you want to keep up with things as much as you can simply shorten what you normally do or change up your routine.
Another thing you can do to help out while you are sick is to do yoga or stretching instead of heavy cardio work. If that’s not what you enjoy then simply walking around the block or on the treadmill may be just the thing that gets your heart rate up but doesn’t make you feel more sick than you already are. If you are really ill then take a day off; it won’t hurt to miss one day and you can make up for it once you’re well.
