Excercising with back pain

Back pain can make the most simple of movements impossible. People with back pain often hesitate to exercises in such a condition for fear that any jarring movements might further complicate their injury. The truth is that the right kind of exercises can strengthen the back muscles and reduce pain where as prolonged bed rest can weaken the back and delay healing. Though a few days bed rest can be beneficial for those with back pain caused by an injury  it is advised that after a couple of days of bed rest the injured maintain ordinary day to day functions which will actually speed up healing.

High impact activities should be avoided until the back has completely recovered but activities such as walking and swimming  can be carried on without doing any further damage to the back. . Mild stretching exercises can improve circulation, relieve tight muscles, increase mobility and reduce back pain. Taking a warm shower or bath before exercises is another way to loosen up muscles in order to make the activities easier.

Strengthening exercises should be avoided until the back pain has ceased. Other exercises to stay away from are those that put strain on the lower back. If unsure about what exercises to do the best thing is to ask a physician or physical therapist before engaging in any sort of exercises.

Once a person has fully recovered from back pain strengthening exercises can be the key to keeping back pain at bay. Supporting the spine can be done by building strong abdominal and back muscles. This in turn will make it easier for former back pain sufferers to remain pain free. It may seem odd to exercises while in pain but by asking a professional and choosing the right exercises a person can speed up their recovery time and make it less likely to receive the same kind of injury in the future.
