Eating Healthy When You’re Sick

Choosing a healthy lifestyle can be difficult for many and trying to eat right when you’re sick can be even harder. You may feel like eating but perhaps you don’t feel like eating a salad or vegetables when all you want is comfort food. You can try to eat healthy while you’re sick if you focus on a few guidelines.

If you’re craving comfort foods such as chicken noodle soup or tomato soup you can choose brands that are low in sodium and fat. These don’t always taste the same but some are quite good. If it’s cookies and milk you’re wanting then indulge a little bit but just don’t go all out and eat the whole box. Ice cream can be a comfort food when you are sick and that’s fine but choose a low-fat ice cream or even a sherbet, which is lower in calories. In fact, it’d be better for your stomach if that is your problem because dairy items can upset a stomach even more.

If you’re only sick a day or two it won’t blow your entire nutritional diet you’ve set up if you just have some comfort foods for a day or so. If you’re sick you may not be eating enough as it is so some of the food won’t hurt you. However, if you’re really worried about it just choose low calorie options of the same foods. It’s up to you to decide but being sick should allow you to worry less over your diet.

Keep in mind that some foods can make you feel worse so try to choose foods that won’t upset your stomach such as spicy foods, greasy foods or food with dairy products.
