A person can be allergic to just about anything in life, even lettuce! However, there are some foods that are more prone to attracting severe allergies, such as tree nuts, peanuts and shellfish to name a few. Here is a quick guide to introduce you to the world of living with a severe food allergy.

Having a severe food allergy can be a very frightening thing, especially for younger children who spend a lot of time at school and away from their parent’s watchful eye. There are so many different things that you have to watch out for once you have developed a severe allergy to something.

For instance, if you have a severe nut allergy you have to check every single label on the food you eat – every time you eat that kind of food. Just because the packaging looks the same doesn’t meant that the ingredients or the warning list will have remained unchanged. The only way you can know for sure that a food is safe is if you personally make it in your own kitchen. However, calling a company directly can help put some people at ease if their comfort level extends to eating packaged food.

Food items aren’t the only things that a person with a severe food allergy has to look out for either! Different types of soaps can contain nut oils and extracts, as can lotions and make ups. Almond oil is believed to keep the skin looking smooth and young so it is included in a lot of beauty products. Air fresheners and candles can even become unsafe items when severe allergies are involved.

For most of the severe food allergies there is no hope of growing out of them. Some people do, but it is a very rare thing to hear of. The best thing you can do is learn how to effectively cope with the allergy and avoid the food in question.
